The program aims to provide the students with the
basic theoretical and practical concepts and skills needed in the Dental
Technology major.
Dental technicians provide support to dental
personnel, as well as in public and private dental laboratories and clinics. As
a dental technician, you will use impressions to manufacture dentures, crowns,
bridges and orthodontic appliances.
Through your studies in this diploma, you will
learn how to construct models, impression trays, dentures, crown and bridge structures,
oral splints and more.
This diploma designed to enable you to develop the
practical skills and knowledge (competency) needed to perform the duties and
tasks in the job. Assessment in a competency-based program is about being able
to demonstrate that you have developed these practical skills and areas of
knowledge, and that you can perform at the standard required in the job. This
could involve showing an assessor how you plan and carry out tasks and
explaining to the assessor how you know what you are doing. It could also
involve completing a project and presenting a report on the process and
outcomes.
